#1 Google’s Year in Search: Singapore

Not many surprises here on google searches locally given our severe limitations/options on all fronts in 2020.

#2 How Venture Capitalists Are Deforming Capitalism by Charles Duhigg

Great article from The New Yorker written by Charles Duhigg whose name may seem familiar. — Yes, he’s also the author of the bestselling book - ‘The Power of Habits’.

The article shares about the workings of the venture-capital industry currently and how their profit-driven greed not only ‘wastes billions of dollars’, enabling companies to ‘disrupt without any social benefit’ and helps funds ‘bombastic charlatans’ (case in point, Adam Neumann and Wework) at the expense of good, hardworking business people and workers.

Such is modern capitalism. Ugh.

#3 The benefits of laziness: why being a lazy person can be good for you

Reading this reminded me of a scene from Spider man 2. — The one with Tobey Maguire.

Dr. Octavius: Parker… Now I remember you. You’re Connors’ student. Tells me you’re brilliant.

Peter: (flattered look)

Dr. Octavius: He also tells me you’re lazy.

Ever been called lazy?

Well this article highlights 10 overlooked benefits of laziness. Creating shortcuts (No.1), energy saving(No.8) and procrastination(No.9) because sometimes it really isn’t that urgent.

#4 Hire People Who Give a Shit

The author underlines the importance of hiring people who give a shit about the company, their own progress and are driven. The lines of questioning shared certainly good for everyone to ponder about and prepare before any job interview.

Finally, the last 2 paragraphs perfectly sums up what’s wrong. It’s definitely on point and a tad hilarious as well.

Hiring managers, recruiters and job-seekers, read it!

#5 100+ Must-Read Books of 2020

On Social:

“It’s easier to desire and pursue the attention of tens of millions of total strangers than it is to accept the love and loyalty of the people closest to us.”

– William Gibson
